DeLapp Design, Seattle, WA

Junior Designer
Despite the title, there's nothing "junior" about the creative muscles you'll get to flex: visual identity materials and logos, infographics, web site interfaces, publication layouts, posters, and more. If it is something that communicates visually, whether printed or on screen, you may get to design it. Our clients are local and national brands, and their needs are varied. We can't lie though, this job also requires a fair amount of "production" work. You'll do things like copy/pasting and reformatting content for the web and importing products to an e-commerce site. Or you'll create materials that follow existing, strict brand guidelines.

What do you get in return? A collaborative and supportive work environment with experienced designers. An office in the heart of Pioneer Square, surrounded by good eats, gorgeous architecture, and walking distance to the waterfront and Downtown. Retirement, medical, and continuing education benefits. We're small, so there's many opportunities to jump in on different kinds of work and see what it takes to run a successful design firm. Ideally this will be a job where you can grow within the company as your own skills and experience expand.

The Job
  • Produce high-end, engaging corporate brand identity, publication design, and website interface/UX design
  • Help maintain and organize project files for all assignments
  • Study, learn, and develop a basic understanding of each client's line of business
  • Complete "production" work, such as the formatting and implementation of client content or expanding an existing visual identity for supporting materials

Requirements

  • Proficient with the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
  • A demonstrated ability to visually communicate ideas and messages on the page and the web.
  • Extremely detail-oriented and organized
  • A solid knowledge of typographic principles
  • A familiarity with the history of graphic design (You know your Rand from your Vignelli, Carson from your Kidd, Sagmeister from, well, anyone)
  • A passion for creating high-quality work
  • An excitement for new design
  • Upbeat, positive personality
  • Skilled communicator that can take criticism well
  • Can work fast and effectively under pressure
  • Previous experience working in an office environment is preferred
  • A 2- or 4-year design degree, or equivalent experience
  • A working knowledge of HTML/CSS is a huge plus
  • Familiarity with Wordpress, both working in it and developing custom themes, is also a huge plus
