Job Description
Creates strategically on-target designs and provides project management for line extensions, gift/promotional packaging and packaging optimization. Supports the overall efforts of the Creative Team and takes responsibility for combining creative solutions with solid brand strategy to deliver on-target concepts within timelines and parameters.
Essential Functions
+ Contributes concepts and sketches, and participates in internal reviews.
+ Explores and conceptualizes design direction.
+ Delivers strategic on-target design orientations.
+ Acts as project owner and directs the production and outside vendors (illustrators, hand lettering, etc.) for all assigned design initiatives.
+ Works directly with Client on all assigned projects.
+ Reviews all first-run production component samples for new designs with Creative Director or Design Director, Production manager and Project Manager to benchmark against color.
+ Responsible for design budget for all assigned design initiatives.
+ Manages design presentation preparation including mock-ups and mounting, powerpoint summaries, etc.
+ Maintains a thorough knowledge of packaging trends and key competitors.
+ Manages project organization for all project binders and archival of design solutions and illustrations.
+ Delivers effective Client presentations in a clear, concise and direct manner.
+ Develops advanced knowledge of strategic brand development, branding and marketing equities.
+ Participates with Design Director and Creative Director in the completion of work in order to meet deadlines.
+ Supports the Designer Director and Creative Director and embraces constructive criticism and change.
+ Builds excellent client relationships.
+ Mentors and helps develop skill set for junior Package Design staff.
+ Keeps accurate personal timesheets and timely project documentation.
+ Works extended hours as necessary to support the design team in meeting deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications
+ High school diploma or GED.
+ BFA in graphic design or package design plus 5 years experience in graphic design, or 9 years experience in graphic design or package design.
+ Advanced level of knowledge of the Macintosh platform, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.
+ Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.
Preferred Qualifications
+ MBA/Master’s degree.
+ Design experience in wine packaging, distilled spirits, beer, beverage or cosmetics.
+ Illustration skills and print production knowledge.
+ Excellent color, design and typography skills.
+ Strong organization and presentation skills and a drive for continual growth and excellence.
+ Thorough knowledge of packaging regulations and their implications on design decisions.
+ Exceptional communication skills.
+ Advanced knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator applications. Basic knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office programs, notably PowerPoint
+ Thorough knowledge of color theory.
+ Experience with strict attention to detail.
+ Integrity and Commitment to the Team – experience with partnering successfully with other members of the organization and building positive business relationships.
+ Leadership skills - positive influence within the organization, experience with managing and mentoring junior level staff.
+ Analytical Thinking skills – experience with thinking strategically, and working outside the box on issues.
