Production Artist
MercuryCSC is a creative, strategic, communications agency that credibly connects brands to people who value authentic places and products and immersive experiences. The agency is currently seeking a Production Artist, who works under the direction of the associate creative director and assigned art director to help the design team get things done. They do this by fulfilling approved design work and completing internal production requirements by preparing, resizing and reviewing files for both interactive and print jobs. The ideal candidate has thorough knowledge of production processes, including but not limited to, the ability to use current software programs to create the necessary artwork that meets online and pre-press requirements.

An important quality for this role would to have a genuine passion for all things interactive, and is comfortable working within current digital technologies and software (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Flash) with an eye to pixel-perfect detail and well-formatted code. Basic knowledge and skills required for this position include typography, type specification, photo cropping and sizing, image manipulation, digital illustration skills, and digital and print color specifications. On the interactive side, the basic skills required include working with current web production technologies and languages, (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc), as well as user interface design, usability, and information architecture. Experience working with various online ad design specs and media requirements is essential, and any additional experience with Git or other content versioning systems and Django would be helpful. A working knowledge of printing techniques and requirements, inks, papers, digital pre-press, and typography/font management is also desirable.

The ideal candidate can also follow technical discussions and potentially engage in and inform both the concept and development process. The ability to self-manage projects and work within time deadlines and constraints, all with impeccable attention to detail, (including proofreading) is a must. All candidates should have a portfolio that demonstrates a strong understanding of design principles, typography, current design trends, and effectiveness across a multitude of platforms including print and digital/interactive. Reports to the associate creative director.
